PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoplastic polymer which has a vinyl ester group originating from a vinyl (meth)acrylate and/or allyl (meth)acrylate, and/or a bifunctional unsaturated group consisting of an allyl ester group with a high content, has no intermolecular crosslinking and thus has excellent thermoplasticity and heat melt moldability and can be easily dissolved in various organic solvents, and to provide a method for producing the thermoplastic polymer simply and at low cost. SOLUTION: The method for producing the thermoplastic polymer is characterized by carrying out the radical polymerization of an unsaturated monomer which contains at least one sort of bifunctional (meth)acrylates selected from vinyl (meth)acrylates and allyl (meth)acrylates at a rate more than 10 mass% under the presence of a lewis acid.
