PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of preventing a hatch of paper on a paper feed tray when paper is contained in the paper feed tray. SOLUTION: This paper feeder comprises a paper feed tray 2 for containing a paper bundle and a pair of side fences 13, 13 vertically installed on the bottom surface of the paper feed tray 2. The side fences 13 have restricting surfaces 13 facing each other at a predetermined interval at both edges in a paper lateral direction L. A restriction member 15 for restricting the position of the paper bundle in the paper lateral direction L is fitted to the front of each of the side fences 13 in the paper conveying direction W. The restriction member 15 comprises a restriction plate 16 brought into contact with the side edge of the paper bundle in the paper lateral direction and a biasing member 17 interposed between the restriction plate 16 and the side fence 13 and biasing the restriction plate 16 to the side edge in the paper lateral direction. The restriction plate 16 comprises a bent part 16b the upper part 16d of which is projected to the paper bundle side and which is bent to the outside in the paper lateral direction L along the upper end surface of the side fence 13.
