PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide process release paper in which a deterioration in surface wettability with the passage of time is prevented and a method for producing the process release paper. SOLUTION: The process release paper is composed of a paper layer and an embossed layer which is set on the paper layer. In the method for producing the process release paper, a thermoplastic resin is extruded on the paper layer, and simultaneously the surface of the extruded thermoplastic resin layer, after being sprayed with ozone to be oxidized, is embossed to form the embossed layer.
