A method for detecting and restoring a defective pixel of an image sensor is provided to improve the accuracy in detection and restoration of the defective pixel, by detecting and restoring the defective pixel from pixels continuing in a horizontal direction, and detecting and restoring the defective pixel from pixels arranged in a matrix type. The first restoring process(S200) is performed by determining whether a target pixel to be tested is included in an edge region of the entire image or not by comparing signal levels of plural pixels disposed in a horizontal direction centering on the target pixel, determining whether the target pixel is defective or not if the target pixel is not included in the edge region, and restoring the target pixel if the target pixel is defective. The first restoring process is performed on all pixels. The second restoring process(S300) is performed by determining the type of a region where the target pixel is positioned from the entire image by comparing signal levels of plural pixels forming a matrix arrangement centering on the target pixel, determining whether the target pixel is defective or not according to the type of the region where the target pixel is positioned, and restoring the target pixel if the target pixel is defective.
