PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To close an opening of a building by assisting the start of descent of a dead-weight descent type shutter curtain and securely dropping the shutter curtain. SOLUTION: The shutter curtain dropping device closes the opening of the building by releasing the shutter curtain 3 which is wound up at an upper part of the opening of the building so as to be held in a storage state and dropping the shutter curtain 3 through its dead weight. The shutter curtain descent device is provided with an engaging piece 9 projectingly formed at the lowermost edge of the shutter curtain 3 and a weight 10 which is in contact with the engaging piece 9 in a storage state of the shutter curtain 3 and applies load to the shutter 3 in a descent direction. The start of descent of the shutter curtain 3 is assisted by the load of the weight 10 applied to the engaging piece 9 when starting descent by releasing the shutter curtain 3. One end of the weight 10 is connected with the upper part of the opening of the building through a shaft and the other end thereof is in contact with the engaging piece 9.
