A method of machining a part from a blank, comprising the steps of cutting an assessment tool cut in the blank using a tool, assessing the assessment tool cut, determining a difference between a nominal tool cut and the actual assessment tool cut and performing a part forming cutting operation on the blank using the tool. The step of performing the part forming cutting operation includes compensating for any difference determined.
