<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To predict failure by monitoring the surface state of a photoreceptor drum of an image forming apparatus and to prevent failure when the apparatus is busily used. <P>SOLUTION: Upon normal operation of the image forming apparatus, an inner state signal detecting a state of the photoreceptor drum of the image forming apparatus is stored in a memory device. Predetermined status discrimination formula is created from reflection light status signals of the photoreceptor drum. Failure is predicted according to whether a status discrimination signal exceeds a predetermined threshold or not, and whether maintenance is to be carried out or not during normal operation of the image forming apparatus is judged based on the prediction results. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
