PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately straighten a camber in both end parts in the width direction of a steel sheet which is difficult to straighten by conventional technique. SOLUTION: Electromagnets 40-48, 50-58 are arranged oppositely to the steel sheet I of the object of straightening in a shape straightening apparatus 20. A sensor 70 is provided on each electromagnet 40-48, 50-58. When performing the shape straightening of the steel sheet I, about parts 60, 66 to be detected which are most approached to both end parts 75, 76 in the width direction Y of the steel sheet I among the parts 60-66 to be detected with each sensor 70, the shape straightening is performed so as to be respectively made to coincide with the look-up straightening directionβ, when a straightening directionαcalculated on the basis of the position in the thickness direction Z is different from the look-up straightening directionβwhich is decided from the position information in the thickness direction Z of both end parts 75, 76 of the steel sheet I.
