The system has integrated circuits (IC1-IC4) and a microprocessor, where identification numbers assigned to the circuits are stored in the circuits. A control component is arranged to detect the identification numbers of the circuits, and to form a hardware configuration value based on the numbers. The configuration value is compared with an expected hardware configuration value (B), and a hardware defect signal is produced when the configuration values does not coincide with one another. The hardware defect signal includes the identification number of a defective circuit. An independent claim is also included for a method for recognizing a hardware defect in a microprocessor system.
