A back light unit and a liquid crystal display device with the same are provided to improve entire luminance and the contrast ratio by inserting a plurality of light emitting lamps used as a light source in a light guide plate. A back light unit comprises a light guide plate(33), a plurality of light emitting lamps(31) and a diffusing sheet(34). A plurality of grooves(32) arranged toward one direction is formed on the light guide plate. The light emitting lamps are connected within the grooves of the light guide plate. The diffusing sheet transfers the light generated from the light emitting lamp to an upper liquid crystal panel. The light emitting lamp is a CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) in which first and second internal electrodes are formed inside both ends of a pipe, or an EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp) in which first and second external electrodes are formed outside the both ends of the pipe.
