PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine whether a sheet present in a paper conveying device is a remaining sheet due to jamming or not. SOLUTION: This paper conveying device 100 supplies sheets from a body paper feed tray 103 and a manual paper feed tray 104. By using information on paper position detected by a resist sensor 106 installed before a resist roller 107, information on the loading of paper on the manual paper feed tray 104, and information on sheet position detected by a paper discharge sensor 110 installed before the paper discharging roller 111, the paper conveying device determines whether a sheet present in the device is a remaining sheet due to jamming or not.
