An engine start control system is provided to start an engine to operate an air conditioner while a vehicle is stopping even if the engine does not normally start due to malfunction of a hydraulic brake system or breakage of interconnection of a brake switch. An engine start control system comprises an engine(16), a brake pedal, a first switch(21) operated by a user in order to start the engine(16), and first switches(22,102). A detector(101) detects an operation of the brake pedal. An engine start control unit(13) controls the start of the engine(16). The engine start control unit(13) provides a normal mode, in which the engine(16) starts when the detector(101) detects the operation of the brake pedal after the first switch(21) is operated, and a fail-safe mode in which the engine(16) starts when the detector(101) does not detect the operation of the brake pedal after the first and second switches are operated. |
