A system comprising a substrate (10), possibly paper, which may be formed into any number of products, on which non human-readable information is provided and a simple to use reader device (20) which can be used to read the information from the paper. The substrate has a conductive surface, on which insulating pattern (12) is provided. The reader is arranged to be moved across the surface in a writing type motion, during which it senses the conductive surface and insulating pattern in order to detect the information. |
