PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an image forming apparatus capable of detecting the erroneous detection of a developer sensor, without causing the excessive charge of the developer to a hopper. SOLUTION: In such situations that the detection output of a second sensor 42 for detecting the presence or absence of the toner in the hopper 42 shows the absence of the toner, but the detection output of a first sensor 41c for detecting the presence or absence of the toner in a container 41 shows the presence of the toner, a control part 13A operates a first conveying part 41b for a prescribed time to convey the toner from the container 41 to the hopper 42. A judging part 13B judges that the detection of the second sensor 42c is abnormal if the detection output of the second sensor 42c does not show the increase in the toner quantity after operating the first conveying part 41b.
