PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing device provided at a front side of a stopper at an end of a conveying line of a heavy article comprising any one of a slab, billet and bloom and capable of preventing floating up of a stopper when the heavy article collides to the stopper. SOLUTION: The impact absorbing device 10 provided at the front side of the stopper 15 at the end of the conveying line 14 of the heavy article comprising any one of the slab, the billet and the bloom is provided with at least two sheets of vertical plates 16-20 perpendicular to a conveying direction of the conveying line 14 and arranged with a clearance; and a plurality of short pipes 21 made of metal arranged in a direction perpendicular to the conveying direction of the conveying line 14 between the respective vertical plates 16-20 and arranged so as to abutted or closely contacted with the vertical plates 16-20 at both sides in the state that its axis becomes parallel to the vertical plates 16-20.
