An apparatus for driving a display panel and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent an integrated circuit from being damaged by controlling supplement time of pixel driving voltage. An apparatus for driving a display panel includes a display controller(110), a switching unit(124) and a dot-matrix driving unit(122). The display controller receives image data and a control voltage, and outputs dot-matrix data, a dot-matrix timing control signal and an enable signal. The switching unit, which is turned on by the enable signal, delivers a pixel driving voltage to the dot-matrix driving unit. The dot-matrix driving unit outputs a dot-matrix driving signal in response to the dot-matrix data and the dot-matrix timing control signal, and delivers the pixel voltage from the switching unit to a dot-matrix region.
