<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil seal composed of a metallic ring and a rubber film coated on the metallic ring, wherein the rubber film is inhibited from being permanently deformed. <P>SOLUTION: In the oil seal, the rubber film integrated with the seal lip is mounted on one of the axial end surfaces of the metallic ring having the seal lip made of rubber like elastic material mounted thereon, and the metallic ring having the rubber film mounted thereon is fitted into a mounting portion by gripping the metallic ring by means of holding members made of rigid material from both sides in the axial direction. In this case, projecting portions are integrally formed on the metallic ring such that the projecting portions are arranged in the rubber film and are brought into direct contact with one of the holding members made of rigid material.
