PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which does not exert an unnecessary force to a paper sheet and does not give rise to unnecessary electrostatic charge by friction. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an image carrier 20 which forms and carries a clear image, a recording medium transfer means which transfers the toner image formed by the image carrier 20 to the recording medium, and a fixing device which imparts a heating and pressurizing effect to the recording medium and fixes the unfixed toner image to the recording medium. The image forming apparatus has a guide member 4-1 for guiding the recording medium holding the unfixed toner image between the transfer means and the fixing device, in which the guide member 4-1 is supported movably with respect to a conveyance course and the guide member 4-1 moves automatically during the image forming operation.
