摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device and a projector capable of improving the efficiency of using light by reducing the diameter of luminous flux halfway through the path of light from a light source. SOLUTION: The optical device 1 provided in the projector is constituted so that the light receiving area of a first fly-eye lens 11 arranged on a light incident side may be larger than that of a second fly-eye lens 12, and is equipped with an optical component 13 making the optical path of the light which has passed through the first fly-eye lens 11 but has not been made incident on the second fly-eye lens 12 yet approach to an optical axis. In the optical device 1, the light from the light source 31 is received by the first fly-eye lens 11 whose light receiving area is larger than that of the second fly-eye lens 12, and the luminous flux of the received light is reduced and radiated to a liquid crystal panel 25. Since the light received by the wider light receiving area than in the conventional manner is radiated to the liquid crystal panel 25, the efficiency of using the light emitted from the light source 31 is improved, and the brightness of an image projected by the projector is improved.
