PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel component for a bearing which has rolling fatigue life more improved than before. SOLUTION: The steel component has a composition consisting of, by mass, 0.6 to 1.5% C, 0.1 to 1.0% Si, 0.1 to 1.5% Mn, 0.05 to 2.0% Cr and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and also has a former austenite grain size distribution in which the average diameter of former austenite grains in the surface layer part of a hardened layer after quenching is≤3.5μm and the maximum diameter of the former austenite grains is≤2.7 times the average diameter of the former austenite grains.
