PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas barrier film comprising an ion-crosslinked polycarboxylic acid polymer film excellent in oxygen barrier property and water vapor barrier property. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the gas barrier film comprises: coating on a substrate a water-based polymerizable monomer composition containing anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, a polyvalent metal ion of an amount that corresponds to 0.20-0.90 in terms of the chemical equivalent to the carboxyl group of theα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, an inorganic layered compound of an amount that makes 0.001-0.45 in terms of the weight ratio to theα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, and water of 20-85 wt.% based on the total weight of the composition; forming a coating film of a wet condition; performing on the wet coating film the polymerization treatment by irradiation of ionizing radiation and/or heating; and forming the ion-crosslinked polycarboxylic acid polymer film.
