PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for preparing gabapentin namely [1-(aminomethyl)-cyclohexane acetic acid]. SOLUTION: The one-pot synthesis method of preparing 1-(aminomethyl)-cyclohexane acetic acid comprises a step of preparing a 1-cyanocyclohexane acetic acid salt by hydrolyzing a 1-cyanocyclohexane acetic acid ethyl ester using potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, or lithium hydroxide, a step of preparing 1-(aminomethyl)-cyclohexane acetic acid in-situ by hydrogenating the resulting 1-cyanocyclohexane acetic acid salt in the presence of a catalyst, and a step of isolating 1-(aminomethyl)-cyclohexane acetic acid.
