PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator apparatus in which vibration is not transmitted from a drive device to a building when a car is run. SOLUTION: This elevator apparatus comprises a guide rail for car installed on the wall of an elevator hoistway through a mounting means, a car liftable along the guide rail for car, a guide rail for counterweight installed on the wall of the elevator hoistway through a mounting means, a counterweight liftable along the guide rail for counterweight, a set of ropes for suspending the car and the counterweight, and a drive device which is located at the top of the hoistway, the mounting means of which is supported by the guide rail for car or the guide rail for counterweight, and which has a traction sheave for hoisting and driving the ropes.
