An apparatus and a method of scanning a keyboard are provided to control a system by preventing a wanted key combination from being recognized as a ghost key by registering the key combination on a key combination list. A method of scanning a keyboard includes the steps of: checking a signal inputted in scan-in lines after several micro seconds from intermittently sending a signal to scan-out lines by a microcomputer(S201); checking a key input if the signal, inputted in the scan-in lines, exists or not(S202); checking if the key input is regarded as a ghost key(S203); determining if the key input is on the key combination list when the ghost key is generated(S204); ignoring the key input if the key input is not on the key combination list(S205); and applying the key input on a computer system if the key input is on the key combination list(S206).
