In a liquid pressure braking system of the type described in Specification 962,933 means are provided whereby the servo device is operable only when a predetermined pressure exists in the braking system so that the servo device operates only during a brake application. As shown in Fig. 2 the chambers 38, 39 of the servo device 36 are normally connected by means of apertures 50 and open valve 49 disposed in the diaphragm unit 37, 42, 45. If the brakes are applied the pressure which acts on the plunger 34 causes it to overcome the spring 52 and so close the valve 49. The servo device can thus be operated by the sensing device if conditions require it. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the two chambers of the servo device are connected, on operation of the sensing device, respectively to atmosphere via port 116 and to a compressed air source via port 108. The latter connection only being possible when valve 109 has been moved off seats 111, 112 by the plunger 103 due to pressure the braking system. In another embodiment wherein the sensing device operates an electric solenoid valve to connect one chamber of the servo device to a compressed air source or atmosphere, the other chamber being connected to atmosphere or a vacuum source, a switch is provided in the electric circuit of the solenoid which is closed by braking pressure in the system.</p> |
