Heading D1A [Also in Division H2] A washing machine comprises a washing drum driven by a motor 7 and having at least one reversing contact 1, the drum movement being interruptable by an auxiliary contact 3 the action of which may be overridable, the reversing and auxiliary contacts being movable into and out of electrical contact with a common contact member 11 by camsurfaces. In Fig. 2, two reversing contacts 1, 2 are provided, and a contact 5 is provided to override the action of auxiliary contact 3. A second auxilary contact 4 is provided in parallel with contact 3, in series with a contact 6. Fig. 3 shows the reversing and auxiliary contacts 1, 2, 3, 4 mounted on resilient strips 20 fastened by rivets 19 at one end to a fixed insulating base and able to contact the common member 11 at the other end, the strips 20 having cam-followers contacting cam-surfaces 9, 10 of a cam-plate 8. Auxiliary contacts 3, 4 are shown operated by the same camsurface but may be operated by different surfaces. The contacts 5, 6 can be operated manually, or in dependence on operating variables, e.g. temperature, or periodically by an additional drive. More than two auxiliary contacts may be provided in parallel. Various operating sequences are shown including one in which clockwise and counterclockwise periods are each split into two parts separated by a stationary period. As a modification, separate cam-plates driven separately may be provided, one for reversing contacts 1, 2, and one for auxiliary contacts 3, 4, to enable drum running periods to be varied. |
