PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detoxifying method for asbestos capable of surely detoxifying asbestos or asbestos-containing waste with simple treatment. SOLUTION: Radical oxygen is brought into contact with asbestos or asbestos-containing waste, and bivalent iron (Fe) incorporated in asbestos is oxidized to trivalent iron (Fe) to detoxify the waste. It is also preferable to pulverize asbestos or asbestos-containing waste while bringing into contact with radical oxygen-containing water, and to oxidize bivalent iron (Fe) incorporated in asbestos to trivalent iron (Fe) to detoxify.
