PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radar device capable of scanning in a plurality of vertical directions precisely following a change of the distance between a preceding vehicle and one's own vehicle. SOLUTION: A laser radar device 100 performs each horizontal scanning 81-85 toward a plurality of angles in the vertical direction. Main scanning 83 among them acquires a reflector 200. A step angle (a) among each horizontal scanning 81-85 is determined, based on the distance L to the preceding vehicle acquired by the measurement, and observation to the upper end of the preceding vehicle 2 is performed by upper side sub-scanning 81, 82, and observation to the lower end of the preceding vehicle 2 is performed by lower side sub-scanning 84, 85.
