PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a safe and high-quality silicone polymer with high efficiency by which chrysotile or a substance containing the chrysotile is chemically decomposed. SOLUTION: The method for producing the silicone polymer comprises the following steps. a decomposing step of decomposing the chrysotile or the substance containing the chrysotile with a first acidic aqueous solution, a recovering step of recovering an acid-insoluble substance consisting essentially of silica without dissolving in the first acidic aqueous solution, a dissolving step of dissolving the recovered acid-insoluble substance in an aqueous solution of a caustic alkali, a mixing step of adding and mixing the aqueous solution of the caustic alkali containing the acid-insoluble substance dissolved therein with a second acidic aqueous solution having a hydrogen ion concentration so as to acidify the resultant liquid after mixing, a silica extracting step of adding a silica extracting solvent to the acidic liquid obtained after the mixing and thereby extracting the silica with the extracting solvent and a silylating step of adding a silylating agent to the silica extracting solvent extracting the silica and carrying out a silylating reaction.
