Based on a frame (1) similar to that of a conventional wheelchair, with footrest (2), pushing handles (3) and provided with a pair of rear drive wheels (4) and a pair of front, steering wheels (5), the invention consists in providing the chair with armrests (6) that slide front-to-back on guides (7), each guide being provided with a rack (9) that, by means of a pair of pinions (10-10'), transmits the movement to a transverse shaft (11) to which is duly keyed a toothed wheel (15), which, by means of a transmission (16), transmits the rotary movement to the corresponding rear wheel (4) of the chair, via a set of gears (18), so that by means of a reciprocal movement of the arms of the user (13) acting on the armrests (6) it is possible to achieve a rotary movement of the rear wheels (4) of the chair, which results in a significant improvement in user comfort. The handle (19) associated with the armrest (6) facilitates said action, it being possible for said handle also to be used not only for actuating the change of gear established between the wheel (15) and the gears (18) but also to actuate the chair's brake. |
