Production of burst disks from metal sheet or foil comprises clamping the periphery of the disk, which will form an outer flange (2). A zone (4) in the central section (3) is fastened between the jaws of a clamp and deformed, while the surrounding area remains undeformed. This is then formed in a second stage and the zone (4) reshaped in a third stage so that it is set back from the remainder of the central section, forming an accurately positioned weakened section. An independent claim is included for burst disks as described.
