A stream recorded in a recording medium is divided into parts and rearrangement edition is performed while maintaining the compatibility with play-only devices. By introducing dividing procedures of play items, rearrangement of the chapters of a stream is realized. Since a series of chapters of real reproduction lists are presented as a chapter group to the user in the case of product specifications, there are cases in which the chapters in the same play list are rearranged and the chapters in some play lists are rearranged. Further, rearrangement edition in which a chapter is moved from one real play list to another, from one virtual play list to another, or from a real play list to a virtual play list is performed.
