PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit provided with a semiconductor laser light source and a second higher harmonic wave generating device and enabling an output of stable higher harmonic wave light to be obtained. SOLUTION: The light source unit is provided with a semiconductor laser light source 300 consisted of a light emitting section (active layer region) 301, a phase variable section (phase adjusting region) 302 and a wavelength variable section (DBR region) 303 and a waveguide-type QPM-SHG device 304. First, in a drive mode at the time of recording operation, I<SB>dbr</SB>wavelength search processing and I<SB>ph</SB>MAIN wavelength search processing are performed, and subsequently calibration of recording power and calibration of reproducing power are performed sequentially.
