999,306. Stabilizing strips. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Dec. 29, 1961 [Dec. 31, 1960], No. 46781/61. Heading B7M. A ship's stabilizing apparatus includes a fin, e.g. 8, an outwardly open cylinder 2, having an end cover 14, into which at least part of the fin can be retracted and a close-fitting piston 7. The piston 7 carries the driving means for controlling rotation of the fin, comprising an electric motor 10 and transmission 11 whose last gear 12 is secured on a shaft 9 of the fin, the piston being disposed in the cylinder 2 for axial movement only along a guide rod 16. The shaft 9 is provided with an axial movement control cylinder 19 in which is disposed a piston 23, connected to a plate 25 by a rod 24. A liquid pressure installation 22 supplies liquid to either side of the piston 23 through lines 20 or 21. The cylinder 2 is sealed, against the ingress of water but pumps 18 are provided in case of leakage. The cylinder 2 can also carry all the necessary signal and switching elements. A further embodiment describes an apparatus having twin fins, as shown in Fig. 3, which may be provided with a connecting fin at their outermost ends, the parts 31a and 32a being rotatable for stabilizing. The rotational drive may be hydraulic and the axial drive may be electrical. |
