Class 44 A beading, the section of which is of C-shape with a web 24 and two flanges 25, 26 is secured to an apertured panel 23 with the aid of a fastener formed from a single strip of metal having its grain running approximately longitudinally thereof, the fastener comprising a body portion 10, two approximately longitudinal shear cuts formed in the body portion so as to extend over one end portion of its length, the metal between the cuts being bent about parallel transverse lines into the form of a U-shaped snap-engaging stud 11, the free end of the stud being tapered, and the uncut end of the body portion being bent out of the general plane of the body portion on the side opposite the stud. the two ends of the body portion being engaged in the beading, the snap-stud being engaged in the aperture in the panel and the overall length of the fastener being approximately equal to the transverse width of the beading. As shown the stud is formed with two snap engaging elbows 15 and the free end 17 of its limb 14 is tapered to increase the resistance which the stud offers to withdrawal from an aperture in a plate 29. The uncut end of the body portion 10 is bent about an angle little more than 90 degrees to form a flange 23 and the ends of the wings of the body portion which lie on each side of the stud 11 are also slightly bent. In a modification of the fastener the leg 13 of the snap stud which is joined to the body portion 10 may be formed with shoulders which slope inwardly towards the body portion to further increase the resistance to withdrawal of the stud from its aperture. In another' modification to aid the ease of engagement of the stud with its aperture the limb of the stud which is joined to the body portion is made straight and is disposed at approximately 90 degrees to the general plane of the body portion. |
