955,723. Fuel cells. SOC. DES ACCUMULATEURS FIXES ET DE TRACTION. Oct. 17, 1960 [Oct. 16, 1959; May 16, 1960; June 18, 1960], No. 35549/60. Heading H1B. The electrodes of a fuel cell are separated by a gap of between 0.05-0.5 mm. inclusive. Due to this small gap the reactions occur at a commercially acceptable rate without the use of high pressures and temperatures. Electrodes 101, 102 (preferably biporous sintered nickel) sandwich a plastics sheet 103 and have diffusers 104, 105 spaced from their respective electrodes for example by ribs formed on the different springs 111, 112 keep the members in contact and gaskets 110 are provided to separate the gases (supplied through pipe 116, 117 and evacuated by pipes 118, 119) from each other and from the electrolyte supplied at 113 and removed at 115. |
