A fall arrest system has a vertically-extending cable 3 between anchorage brackets fixed to a pylon. To tension the cable a tensioning device having a compression spring 62 and a screwed rod 59 acts between a lower surface of a flange 22 of the lower anchorage and the bottom of a slot 35 of a limb 36 of a bracket 32 attached to the bottom of the cable 3. A nut is screwed along rod 59 until the spring 62 becomes coil bound. At this point a clamp bolt 31 extending through the slot 35 can be tightened to hold the applied tension and the tensioning device can be removed. Cable tension pulls the distal ends of the brackets towards each other about bolts B and bosses 23 react with the corner of the pylon. |
