A slider 10 for a sliding clasp fastener comprises a slider body defined by walls 11, 12 joined and spaced by a web 13 in which one wall 11 only of the slider has flanged sides and is provided with raised spaced platforms 18, 19, a flat plate 22 fixed to and joining the platforms, a spring lock 23 fixed to one of the platforms between the plate and one of the platforms, the spring lock operating in an aperture 27 in the flanged wall 11, a pull member 32 pivoted between the wall and the spring lock to move the latter into and out of operative position, a bevelled projecting surface 30 on the flanged wall and engageable by the pull member for checking movement of the pull member in one direction, a shoulder on one of the platforms for checking movement of the pull member in the other direction, the other unflanged wall 12 of the slider being so constructed that it is adapted to be moved in the direction of the flanged wall 11 from a position widely spaced therefrom to a position nearer thereto, by compression force applied to the unflanged wall 12 when the slider is mounted on coupled scoops of a pair of fastener stringers. In the arrangement shown, the wall 12 is initially spaced from the wall 11 by an amount which permits the slider to be freely passed over or across interconnected stringers, but which subsequently is compressed on to the stringers by a suitable compression tool 35. In a modification, Fig. 9 (not shown) the pull member has limited free movement prior to engagement with the locking member. In another arrangement, Figs. 6-8 (not shown), the locking member is formed with a pair of transversely spaced locking elements and the top and bottom walls of the slider are provided with central longitudinally extending ribs. |
