Vinyl chloride or a mixture of vinyl chloride and a monoolefin comprising 2 to 4 carbon atom are polymerized by an initiator system consisting of an alkyl borane and monotertiary butyl permaleate. Olefins exemplified are ethylene and propylene. Alkyl boranes exemplified are triethyl and tri n-butyl boranes. The polymerization is preferably carried out in aqueous media in the presence of a suspending agent such as polyvinyl alcohol. |
