The air-cooled system converts residual heat from the exhaust system (6,8) of a motor vehicle into electrical energy via a thermo-electric unit. The hot side of the unit obtains heat energy by means of a direct or indirect contact with hot exhaust gases (6a) and the cold side of the thermo-electri cunit is cooled by ambient outer air (7a), which is possibly fed via a system of flexible pipes (14) from the front side of the motor vehicle. The system is adaptable to any kind of motor vehicle, including those coming directly from factory production lines. The system is provided with a control unit (15) enabling electrical energy generated by the thermo-electric unit to be used in the electrical system of the motor vehicle by means of an electronic voltage regulator. The electrical energy is thus made suitable for use in the motor vehicle, completely or partly replacing other possibly installed electrical energy users in the vehicle, such as a dynamo.
|
