The system has a physiological parameter detection unit for detecting a physiological parameter e.g. heart rate, of a cyclist riding a bicycle. A physiological parameter processing unit calculates a physiological parameter data e.g. oxygen consumption analysis, of the cyclist riding the bicycle. A signal generation unit generates a drive signal with reference to the physiological parameter data. An automatic shifting unit operates the gearing mechanism of the bicycle in selected one of the gear ratios in response to the drive signal received from the signal generation unit.
