A system for detecting a fault section of a transmission line in an E1 unit and a method thereof are provided to trace a correct fault position of a section when a fault occurs in a specific section, thereby quickly performing the operation and maintenance of the transmission line and minimizing a service interruption time. A method for detecting a fault section of a transmission line in an E1 unit comprises the following steps of: allowing a home exchanger to transmit hop count 1 to a device in a section(S100); allowing each device by section to add one to the received hop count and transmit the hop count to a next device(S110); and allowing a foreign exchanger to detect a fault section by using the number of the received hop count(S120).
