[Also in Division F2] An oscillatory grinding mill comprises two or more grinding drums 1, 2 connected together to form a structure resiliently supported from the ground and arranged to be given a circular oscillatory motion by means of ar eccentric drive shaft 14 which is mounted in the structure provided with unbalance weights 15, 15<SP>1</SP> and so disposed that the shaft axis coincides with the axis of gravity which the structure possesses during a grinding operation. The drums 1, 2 held in web 3, 4 are supported by rubber springs 7, 8 and driven by a shaft 14 which is arranged to be driven in bearings 16, 16<SP>1</SP> by a motor 17. Material, such as quartz, is continually fed into the upper drum at 12 where it is preliminarily ground by grinding bodies before passing on to the lower drum through a flexible connection 11 to be finish-ground and discharged through a screen 13<SP>1</SP>. As shown in Fig. 3, the axis of the shaft is so positioned that when the mill is loaded and in operation it is displaced from the geometric centre S1 to the centre of gravity S3 of the operating mill. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the axis of the shaft is positioned so that it coincides with both the geometric centre of the assembly and its centre of gravity, weights 23, 24 being provided on both drums to counterbalance the effect of the charge in the drums when operating ; alternatively a weight 25 may be secured between the webs 3, 4. |
