A method for activating a supplementary function of a base station channel of a synchronous mobile communication system is provided to contribute to an effective operation of a system when CPU resource is not overloaded and there is not many calls connected with a corresponding channel card. An average CPU occupancy rate is periodically measured by a CPU occupancy measurement unit of a channel card(410). It is checked whether the measured average CPU occupancy rate is smaller than the first threshold value(412). If the measured average CPU occupancy rate is the same or greater than the first threshold value, it is checked whether there are currently activated supplementary functions(424). When supplementary functions have been activated, a supplementary function to be deactivated is selected from the activated supplementary functions and deactivated(426). If the measured average CPU occupancy rate is lower than the first threshold value, time-sensitive throughput is measured(414). It is checked whether the measured time-sensitive throughput is smaller than the second threshold value(416). When the measured time-sensitive throughput is the same as or greater than the second threshold value, it is checked whether supplementary functions have been activated. When supplementary functions have been activated, a supplementary function to be deactivated is selected from the activated supplementary functions and deactivated.
