A transmission diversity method for an SCH(Synchronization Channel) and a BCH(Broad casting Channel) in an OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) cellular system is provided to detect OFDM symbol and frame timings during an initial power-on step, to estimate initial frequency offset, and to use the synchronization channel for coherent demodulation in demodulating the BCH by a mobile station. In an OFDM based cellular system defining an SCH and a BCH at a forward link, a transmission diversity method for the SCH and the BCH includes a step for arranging SCH and BCH symbols(192,193) adjacently to each other if two or more transmission antennas of a base station exist and a step for applying the same transmit diversity to the adjacent SCH and BCH symbols and then transmitting the SCH and BCH symbols through the same antenna. |
