PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent pitch fluctuation in self-servo write. SOLUTION: In one embodiment of the present invention, an outer peripheral side area 212 of a magnetic disk 11 is erased by an external magnetic field and an inner peripheral side area 211 is self-erased by a head. Magnetization states of ground before writing patterns are different between the inner peripheral side area and the outer peripheral side area. Thus, different APCs are measured even when a radial pattern 117 with the same pitch is read in the inner peripheral side area and the outer peripheral side area. An SSW in this embodiment uses different reference APCs in the inner peripheral side area and the outer peripheral side area. Thus, the pitch fluctuation is prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
