PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for a vehicle transmission carrying out downshift on the basis of braking operation of a driver, and capable of suppressing a sense of incongruity given to the driver. SOLUTION: In the controller for the vehicle transmission carrying out downshift control on the basis of the braking operation of a vehicle by the driver, when an amount of the braking operation is reduced (S7), downshift control is prohibited (S8).
