PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus improved in its the reliability attained by suppressing a reduction in the throughput and reducing degradation in image quality due to defective ejection. SOLUTION: The inkjet recording apparatus discharging ink from a recording head to record an image includes a detection means for detecting the discharge state of the ink from the recording head, a storing means for storing a parameter relating to a cumulative recording amount of the recording apparatus, and a control means for controlling the device, by setting a detection interval of the ink discharge state from the parameter relating to the cumulative recording amount stored in the storing means, so as to detect the discharge state of the ink from the set interval.
