The water bed is mounted in a preformed frame (4) and has a safety tub of stable and elastic material. The frame is mounted laterally of the tub (5) and is also of a stable and elastic material to define a complete water bed with the tub and insert core (2). The upper edges of the frame form an area which hinges outwardly to form a rigid wall but can bend inwardly towards the tub. The frame and safety tub can have a thickness of between one and five centimetres.
