The laser scanner has a rotary head, in which a mirror is mounted which reflects the laser beam on to the object to be measured and/or reflected light from it on to a receptor. The mirror is mounted in a section of the housing (8) which has walls (14, 16, 18) forming a triangle at right angles to its axis.
